Add a folder to a Namespace

  1. On the host create a directory of the same name as your namespace but append _share, this is where the data will be stored.
Note

This directory needs to be shared out, if it is not shared already via inheritance

  1. In DFS Manager right click your namespace and "New Folder..."
  2. Name it the same _share again, press "Add"
  3. Select your folder that was created in step 1.
  4. Press "done"

Migrating a non-replicated folder

  1. Create a directory named the same as the source
  2. Share the directory
  3. Use emcopy, robocopy, rsync, etc to copy the data from the old hosts _Share to the new hosts _Share. These tools are used to preserve atime and other attributes.
    • This can be done by navigating to \\server\d$\ where d$ is the drive letter holding the shares.
  4. Add the new directory as a new folder target by right clicking the folder listed under your specific Namespace
  5. Remove the old folder target from the folder
